:: Keywords ::

When a user search criteria matches your keyword, your ad will be displayed, so you will need a large list of words focused around your product.

Besides Google tool, the easiest way to start building a keyword list is on Overture Search.
Let’s take the word "perfume".

Just enter your main keyword and click “Go”. The list of words that shows up will be a good start to get more keywords.

As you can see, the word “perfume” was searched 198589 times in January, which is not bad at all. That means there is a big demand for this product.

Now, save the first ten words in a text file, and then click on the second word "discount perfumes". You will get a new list of words. Again, add the first ten words in the text file, go back and click on the third word.

If you run this process for each of the first ten words you will get a good list of keywords in a few minutes. Of course, you shouldn’t stop there, because on Google AdWords you will need a much larger keyword list to be successful.

When you are finished with searching words on Overture, you should also try these excellent keyword tools:

These programs are very good and in combination with Google keywords tool and Overture, your can build a very good and powerful keyword list.

Before you finish your keyword list, you need to understand why your keywords have to be highly focused around your product.
If you are selling Armani perfumes, and your keyword is “perfume”, your campaign money will burn out in a few days, probably without making not even one sale!
Why?
Because the word “perfume” is too general to bid on. People might be looking for Calvin Klein perfumes, or just browsing the web to see some other perfumes..
The highly targeted keyword for Armani perfume would be “affordable Armani perfumes” or “new Armani perfumes”... So, if your words are to general, they will only attract unwanted clicks by the surfers who are not interested in buying your product and you will spend a lot of money paying for those clicks!

So, now when you have selected your keywords, you should test their performance.

Go to your Google Adwords account and under Tools=> Traffic Estimator paste your keywords into the first box: “Enter keywords”.

Set your currency, maximum cost per click and your daily budget for the campaign.
Since this is not your actual campaign (you are just testing your words), set your daily budget to 1000-2000$, so Google will keep displaying your ad all the time.
After that, set your campaign language, location, countries and click “Continue”.
On the next page, you can see the Traffic Estimator results and what is the top bid price for each of the keywords, how much clicks it will bring and estimation how much will you pay for each of the keywords per day.
So here you can get some very valuable information about your keyword list.

When a user search criteria matches your keyword, your ad will be displayed, so according to that, Google Adwords
has 4 different types of keyword matching:

Broad match
These words attract a lot of clicks, but they also have a catch. Example: if your keyword is “Armani perfumes”, your ads will appear on searches “Armani” and ”perfumes”, including any other additional words, so this can bring you a lot of unwanted clicks. If you want to use a broad match on your keywords, just leave them as they are:
keyword
Phrase match
This is a bit more precise term than broad match. Your ad will appear if user enters the exact phrase or their search contains an additional word, before or after your keyword, like “affordable Armani perfumes”, but not for “Armani affordable perfumes”. If you want to use the phrase match on your keywords, place them in quotes:
“keyword”
Exact match
Your ad will appear if the users search query exactly match your keywords. If you want to use the exact match on your keywords, place them in brackets:
[keyword]
Negative match
If you don’t want your ad to show up for a certain keyword, put that keyword among the other keywords and place a minus sign in front. The most common negative word is ""free", so your keyword should look like this:
-keyword

Understanding of Google AdWords keyword matching is very important if you want to be successful and keep your campaign at a low cost budget. Otherwise, you will attract a lot of unwanted clicks that will spend your money without making any sales!
